Fire Department

Safety to the public is our number one concern beginning with fire safety education being taught to pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students.  General public safety includes annual fire inspections of all businesses and schools to insure that hazards and deficiencies are corrected.

The Director of Fire Services oversees all aspects of the department including budget preparations and spending, hiring personnel, and ensuring that daily operations are conducted efficiently.  Duties of the Assistant Chief are mainly directed towards fire suppression, training of personnel, and daily operations.  The Assistant Fire Marshall performs plan reviews, code enforcement, and fire investigations.

The department is divided into distinct sectors, fire suppression and fire prevention.  The Fire Marshal’s office is a law enforcement agency consisting of five certified peace officers whom are all arson investigators.  Requirements for this office include certifications of Firefighter, Fire Inspector, Arson Investigator and Peace Officer.  Code enforcement, inspections and plan review are conducted through this sector.  Commercial and retail construction plans are reviewed by staff for compliance of adopted codes, standards and ordinances.

Diversification best represents the many levels of expertise that our department possesses.  Not only firefighting abilities, but also included are vehicle extrication, high angle, confined space, swift water and dive rescue.  From being first responders assisting EMS to rescuing people from burning structures, we are always ready to serve.
