Police Department

The Police Department is the city’s largest department both in manpower and funds expended.  With that comes a lot of responsibility and of course activity.  Those activities are divided into separate divisions for better organizational control.  Administration includes the Chief and Patrol Captain.  They insure that the department operates at maximum efficiency within our budgetary constraints while providing the type of service our citizens/visitors expect and deserve.  The Patrol Division is the foundation of our department and is led by our Patrol Lieutenants, Sergeants and Corporals.  This component is divided into four 12 hour shifts 24/7.  Criminal Investigations (CID) oversees our Sex Offender Registration/Pawn Shop Detail, investigates criminal offenses and files them with the proper prosecuting authority.  Special Crimes (Narcotic) and SWAT are run in collaboration with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department.  K-9 works Criminal Interdiction mainly on Interstate 30.  Emergency Management is run by the Patrol Captain with two assistants.  The Reserve Unit and Part-time Officers supplement the Patrol Division while Volunteers assist in Parade/Event duties and enforces Handicap Parking violations.  Records exists to accurately file documents and disseminate reports.  Animal Control enforces City Ordinances and State laws while actively increasing our adoption rate.  Finally, our Communications Division ties it all together by gathering accurate information to dispatch the level of response needed in a timely manner while being the life line to our officers and general public.  The Sulphur Springs Police Department continues to serve its citizens with pride in its overall mission and will strive to provide the best possible police force in the 21st century.
